EDUCATION IS KEY

Ahamara L. Mathis Urban Institute LLC.

Prior to Ms. Brewster opening her school, she was the primary teacher at Kuumba Youth Liberation Academy under the leadership of Lailah Hampton-El founder and CEO.

The ALMUI LLC provides a parent rich environment for our youth and families to become empowered via mentoring, tutoring, cultural enrichment, musical enlightenment and spiritual awareness. ALMUI teaches and encourages youth to follow principles that foster responsibility and respect for their peers. Ms. Brewster understood the educational and communication void in the lives of today's youth. She strongly believes youth need a strong sense of family involvement along with defined cultural values in order to become positive and productive citizens.

During COVID-19 due to the concerns around the mask mandates and overall safety of children, Ms. Brewster took what was an afterschool program in her business plan model and opened her doors and operated it as a primary school.

At Ahamara L. Mathis Urban Institute LLC., and Kuumba Youth Liberation Academy, Ms. Brewster was responsible for servicing each child according to their needs and their age development. She prepared monthly calendar of curriculum, activities and assessments implemented for the month. Including, bookkeeping for attendance, evaluations and testing. Planning and implementing educational activities centered around African concepts and specialized in teaching IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet).

  • Provide positive alternative images of our students, avoid negative representation of stereotypical images on television.

  • Students Pre-K-5 also being represented as a way to generate funds for JCPS by holding a live production of "Children Say What Needs to Be Said" as a local television program partnering with the Kentucky Center for The Arts.

Parent Responsibility:

  • Parents to fulfill service hours in schools to assist teachers and staff with safety and other concerns.

  • Encourages students' behavior by having a strong visible presence in the schools.

  • Require and encourage regular participation in home health discussions lead to resources that support healthy school and life skills.

Student Healing Spaces:

  • Provide students with healthy meditation opportunities during school hours in assembly styled settings to help alleviate and diffuse stress.

  • Teach students the power of meditation to strive for the successful lives they want to live.

  • Provide relaxing and stimulating brain wave music for students in class, over intercom, and supplied earphones as they work from their desk.

Nutrition:

  • Provide cold pressed juicing to cafeterias.

  • Gradually incorporate plant-based meal options along with smaller healthy portions.

  • Add fitness centers in all schools that are accessible after school and weekend hours for children who are obese.

  • Free lunch for all JCPS students.

90 Day Action Plan to Reduce Violence:

  • 30-day call to action for each cluster of elementary, middle, and high schools for District one.

  • Any parent who feels like their child(ren) is/are at risk to street violence, gang violence, drugs, suicide, depression, or environmental concerns around safety, parents are encouraged to attend and enroll their student.

  • The list gives us a glance of what children we need to pull from class for counseling and team up with community partners and provide workforce incentives to keep them out of risk and to improve behavior and academics.
